I've started doing some multimedia work for Factor Four at BCIT. Here's a little background about Factor Four.
In 2009 BCIT School of Construction and Environment Architectural Science started the Factor Four initiative. The goal of Factor Four is a fourfold (75%) reduction in material and energy consumption without compromising service levels. Moreover, Factor Four projects also focus on urban renewal; changing the look and feel of the area and increasing walkability.

Factor Four activities will focus in the “Factor Four
Area” of the Burnaby Campus, which includes seven building in the northeast
corner of the campus. All these buildings are individually monitored in
real-time for electricity, natural gas and when applicable, hot water.
Examples of Factor Four projects:
- A new trades and technology building constructed following passive design principles.
- A living wall installed at The Center for Architectural Ecology.
- Afresh home: BCIT’s net zero energy home.
Many of the Factor Four projects have been documented so they can be used in class as case studies for students.
